MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort prolonged TNT's misery in the PBA Philippine Cup with a 99-84 decision to cap Wednesday night's hostilities at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Nico Elorde mounted a breakthrough performance with 17 points, seven boards and seven assists to help the Batang Pier return to the win column and firmly latch onto the seventh spot of the standings.

GlobalPort also drew double-digit showings from its five other cagers to keep the KaTropa scrambling for an opportunity to turn the tide.

The holistic effort by the Batang Pier saw their lead swell by as many as 30 points in the third frame.

And that alone was enough to put an ear-to-ear smile to their ever-animated mentor Pido Jarencio.

"Ang ganda ng tinakbo namin, 'di kami naglakad," he said in jest. "We started aggressive. Ang mindset namin, 'yung TNT they played three games in a week. Sabi namin let's take that advantage -- push ng push -- aggressive and physical sa depensa."

"From the start, magandang maganda (ang pinakita namin)," the tactician offered.

"Nakuha ng TNT yung momentum, pero kampante kami kasi naghahabol pa rin sila eh. Bumaba, pero nandoon pa rin, hahabulin pa rin double figures. Siguro gusto ng players pumasok ng playoffs at ito ang chance namin," Jarencio added.

The Batang Pier's conquest of the perennial  playoff contenders hikes their record to 4-4 and gives them momentum as they brace for the homestretch where Magnolia, Kia and Phoenix await.

"Last four games, at least makakuha kami ng three, safe na 'yun," Jarencio closed.

TNT, which has been limping for three games now, will try to wrap its quest for a playoff spot with a dance with sister team NLEX in two weeks' time.
